Renata's Medical Fund

Donation protected
This is Renata, she is four years old and suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Renata, her mother Berenice, and her sister and father live in the worst conditions imaginable, in a shared household with fifteen other people in one of the poorest areas of San Miguel De Allende, Guanajuato, in central Mexico. This is about to change soon because a non-profit organization called “Casita Linda”, whose mission is to build homes for people living in extreme poverty, selected Renata’s family to receive a new home. Casita Linda, however, has deemed it necessary to extend its purpose to help this family with the special needs of an incurably sick child.

Renata’s condition is a heavy burden on the family’s precarious financial condition and her father works endlessly making just a few dollars a day to barely keep up with the medical expenses. Because of Renata’s lack of muscle control, just going to sleep requires immense effort and doses of medication. In addition, Renata has to use a feeding tube because her loss of muscle control makes it difficult for her to get food from her mouth to her stomach. The nearest care center available for Renata is in Irapuato, which is two hours away and requires Renata’s father to miss work days, making it even harder for the family to take care of her.

Since I am volunteering at Casita Linda this summer, I am starting a GoFundMe for Renata with which I hope to help cover some urgent necessities, starting with a bathtub and a bathing stretcher. The main purpose of this is for Renata’s hygiene and safety since water comes in trucks every two to three weeks. Without the bathtub, Renata’s sister or her mother would have to hold her in her arms while showering. The bathing stretcher is specially made for people with Cerebral Palsy and would decrease the risk of slipping and becoming injured during bathing.

This effort comes exactly at the right time because Mexican state insurance providers will stop supporting a child with basic needs at the age of five and Renata will turn five this year. This fund will first cover the costs of the bathtub, its installation, and the bathing stretcher, but will then move on to cover medical expenses such as Renata’s feeding tubes and medications for at least a year.

I’d like to thank you all in advance for your generosity. This project will help Renata live a better life through your charity, and it will relieve the costs of a very poor family having a child with a lifelong disease.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity,
