Renard's Leptospirosis Recovery

UPDATE: He's still getting care in the hospital and the total cost for this care is up to $6,000 and rising
On October 15, 2017 my very happy and playful dog, Renard, showed symptoms of an upset stomach. He didn't eat that day so my parents and I took him to his regular veterinarian on Monday, where they treated him for dehydration and an upset stomach.
It wasn't getting better by Thursday and he continued to throw up and decline any food but drank water. Once we got to the vet again, they took x-rays and noticed enlarged kidneys. Of course that was very concerning, so they did more blood work and testing. They told us that it was possibly leptospirosis. They explained that his kidney levels were very high, he was in a lot of pain and going into kidney failure.

This was shocking and devastating to us because he's only 2 years old and the vaccine for lepto is not standard, it's optional. We had no idea that he hadn't been vaccinated for it, nor did any vet ever mention it to us since he was adopted by my family later on. This is a very, very serious and worrisome disease. It's spread when a person or animal is in contact with water or wet soil that has been contaminated with urine of an infected animal and I don't believe it's talked about enough.
Currently Renard is at a 24-hour care pet hospital getting constant fluid therapy treatments and other care. This is around $1200 a day, and we have no idea when or if he'll be able to come home. I know he's a fighter, and he's a young dog so we're hoping for recovery from this terrible disease.
