A little background on Renal and his family. Renal’s dad Michael lost his life to cancer in 1999, leaving his wife Barbara with two small sons, Renal and his brother Julien. Barbara is a retired Army veteran who has raised her two sons alone and along the way became a foster parent and adopted a daughter, Alyssa. They moved from the DC area in 2004 to the Outer Banks of NC, where Renal graduated from First Flight High School in 2012. He then went on to be a landscaper, a lifeguard, and attended Johnson and Wales University for Culinary Arts in Charlotte, NC. He lived in Charlotte until recently, moving back home in anticipation of his Navy deployment. That is when the cancer showed up.
After gathering information on treatment options and success rates, Renal has opted for treatment at New Hope Unlimited in Yuma AZ, which will be from February 3-17, 2018 and will be dendritic cell therapy immunotherapy specifically designed for him using his own blood and white blood cells. He will also be on a very strict diet regimen consisting primarily of organic foods. Insurance does not cover any costs for this treatment.
As a cost breakdown, this is what Renal is looking at financially -- just for medical expenses and not including any of his other expenses such as car payment and auto insurance. All costs listed from Duke University Hospital are his co-pay after insurance has paid their part.
~$28,000 for treatment at New Hope
~$1,200 for air travel to Yuma, AZ
~$300 hotel costs in Yuma, AZ
~$1,000+ travel expenses to Duke University Hospital

Alternately, if you would rather not do business over the internet, checks or money orders will be received by Barbara’s home church, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks as a courtesy to the family.
