Remove the Mesh for Eunice

Donation protected
Please help us raise funds for Eunice Shimmin who lives in Adelaide, South Australia. She is 53 years old. Eunice is pictured above with her partner, Gordon, and one of her daughters, Beth.

Eunice has been in debilitating pain since February and hasn't been able to work. She had a mesh device implanted 10 years ago for a bladder problem and is now suffering from the severe complications it has caused in her body. Mesh, also known as “tape”, is plastic and over time it hardens and starts eroding inside the body. It can perforate the bladder and bowel, and wear through the vagina wall. It is horrifying.

Eunice is, and has been, on a number of different types of pain relief, including Endone, Voltaren Suppositories, Morphine, Palexia and slow-release Lyrica. She has been taken to the Emergency Department a number of times due to intense bouts of pain.

She needs an operation in Sydney to remove the mesh later this year (there's nobody in Adelaide that can do it, in fact, her surgeon had to train for the procedure in the US) and so we are organising a fundraiser for her to help with the costs associated with the trip like the flights, accommodation and medication (she has health insurance, but the doctor's gap is unknown and could be quite high).

Eunice needs a 3D scan before the operation and then will be in hospital for 4 - 5 days after the prodcedue. She needs to stay in Sydney for 10 days after the operation, which is on Saturday 21 October 2017.

Our target is $5000 . There is a crowdfunding campaign set up for affected women, but Mum's surgery is in October and so she needs this help quickly.

The link to the articles (1) & (2) below are quick reads and give you an idea of what she's going through and how it happened - it's something that has affected thousands of Australian women. There is currently a Senate enquiry which will lead to a class action against the mesh manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson (3).

Please help us raise these funds so Eunice isn't in debilitating pain every day and can eventually return to work and a normal life.
