Remembering Steve

Stephen Mallette's joyous life was cut short on October 17th, 2013. Steve was our friend and coworker for almost 3 years as a Registered Nurse in the DMC Intensive Care Unit. The 17th was a typical crazy, busy day in the ICU when our manager gathered us together to report the sad news that Steve was taken in a tragic auto accident that afternoon. Shocked and devastated, we continued our day numb from pain; those coming on shift that night - those who were the closest to Steve - reported to work stone-faced or in tears. How could this be? Not our Steve...a person we shared so many great memories with... who cared so much about his family... whose company we all cherished so much.
Anyone who encountered Steve Mallette immediately loved him - how could you not with the crooked grin and the sandals/socks combo, the easy-going personality and the amazing squash he grew and brought us constantly? His love for people showed in all he did, but mostly in how he cared for and treated his patients. We, his friends and coworkers, are extremely saddened and grieved by his loss and we can never, ever replace the hole that is now in our hearts. However, we can honor his memory and try to comfort his family in some small way by doing what Steve was best at - giving.
This money will be used to assist in expenses for Steve's family: his love Pauline, and his kids Colton, age 17; Autumn, 15; and Erica, 12. Their loss and grief is unimaginable, and we want them to feel all the love and support we can offer at this trying time.
Nothing can take the place of our friend. Steve, we love you and miss you terribly. We will forever cherish every memory and each moment spent with you.
