Remembering Sherry Edie

Donation protected
We are greatly saddened to lose our dear friend, Sherry Edie.  She passed away on September 28, 2020 at her apartment in Los Angeles at the age of 53.    We do not have final information on the cause of death, but she apparently had been suffering from  an infection in her leg for the past several months.  This fundraiser is to cover the costs of her cremation and related fees, securing and transporting her belongings, and any other legal/administrative fees for handling her affairs.

Those of us who knew Sherry well know that her life was not easy.  She was raised by her grandmother who was a loving presence in her life.  Her grandmother passed away in 1996.  She was in contact with her mother and stepfather, but they were not close.  Her mother passed away in 1999 and she had no contact with her stepfather that we are aware of after that.  We never heard anything about her father, but we recently found out that he is still alive.  Although they had no contact since shortly after her birth, it is good that a next of kin was found.  He is quite ill himself and unable to handle Sherry's affairs, but he is giving permission for us (Julie, Mandy, and Heather) to be able to take care of her and her belongings with dignity.

Sherry loved all things Disney and was a frequent visitor to Disneyland.  She also loved Catalina and many of us spent extremely fun times with her there. She was a huge music fan and some of us last had contact with her when Tom Petty sadly passed away; she also served as co-president of the fan club for the band Poison.  She was an excellent writer who contributed stories to blogs about Disney, TV and pop culture.  Those who knew her during our junior high and high school days (and beyond) remember that she also was an excellent photographer who documented all our fun times together.  We are hopeful that some of these pictures remain and they can be shared with those pictured.

Her life got increasingly difficult after a job loss many years ago.  While many of us tried to help her in various ways, some of us will carry with us a sense that we and the system failed her.   Although we wish things could be different, we now want to honor her with respect and love so she can rest fully in peace.

We plan a cremation and to spread her ashes in places that she loved when we are able to gather together safely again.  We also are arranging for her belongings to be transported so they can be reviewed and items shared with those who shared memories and good times with her.  As noted above, this fundraiser is intended to cover the costs of the cremation and related fees, securing and transporting her belongings, and any other legal/administrative fees for handling her affairs.

The team working on this fundraiser consists of Julie Fishman, Mandy Silman Herbert and Heather Howard (Dobson).  Julie Fishman will administer the funds and Mandy Silman Herbert will be reviewing Sherry's belongings.
