Remembering Shawn McGowan

When a loved one passes away, it can seem impossible for the surviving family to cope with the grief, let alone the financial costs of final arrangements - this is the last thing that a grieving family should have to worry about. I am asking friends to give anything they can to help Denise and family be relieved of this burden.
Shawn A. McGowan, 33, of Pawtucket, passed away Thursday. He was the son of Denise (Lareau) Finnerty of Pawtucket and the late Robert F. McGowan Sr and step-son of Kevin Finnerty, also of Pawtucket.
As a 2002 graduate of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, Shawn was a star athlete and letterman of the Football, Baseball and Basketball teams. After high school he attended Springfield College where he made many memorable friends and acquaintances.
Among many interests, he was a devout Catholic who regularly attended Sunday mass at St. Theresa Church in Pawtucket. He loved his family, especially his mother. He loved life, attending sports events with his brothers, and family events and holidays. He enjoyed music and being the life of the party.
Besides his beloved mother, he leaves his siblings, Toni McGowan-Bojorquez, James McGowan, Robert McGowan Jr., Richard McGowan and Michael McGowan; his step-sisters, Jennifer and Kristen Finnerty; his aunt, Lorraine J. Shaw; his uncle John McGowan; his cousin, Ryan Shaw; as well as several beloved extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to Shawn's Life Celebration which will begin with Visiting Hours on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. His tribute will continue on Tuesday at 10 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the St. Theresa Church, Newport Avenue, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, the family has request donations to any program that supports substance abuse prevention, in Shawn's memory or to the St. Raphael Academy Football Program, 123 Walcott Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
