Remembering Marc Genberg

It's been a full year since Marc died suddenly on October 7th, 2017, from the rare heart disease, Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy. To observe this tragic day and to honor Marc's passion for mountain biking, I've set up this GoFundMe campaign to benefit the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE) of which Marc was an active member.
I chose to support MORE because not only do they strengthen our local mountain biking community, but they also have set the wheels in motion to rename “Trail #8” in Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Virginia, as "The Marc Genberg Trail." This action is led by MORE's Ernie Rodriguez and Jeff Niner; they submitted the proposal for the renaming earlier in the year and currently it’s pending approval.
This is an excerpt from MORE to the Fairfax County Park Authority Board:
“Mr. Genberg passed away in 2017 not long after completing his final volunteer trail work day of many at Lake Fairfax Park. His long-time support for the trail infrastructure within the park was well known to the entire mountain bike and general trail user community. His countless volunteer hours in support of trail planning, trail building and trail maintenance are greatly missed by the larger trail user community and remain a superb example of volunteerism in support of greater societal recreational goals. They are certainly worthy of renaming one of the many trails on which he worked, so that others are reminded to follow his tremendous example.”
I greatly appreciate Ernie and Jeff's efforts toward making "The Marc Genberg Trail" a reality. My sincerest hope is that this proposal will be approved so that Marc will be honored each time knobby tires hit this trail. It would be an exceptional memorial for an extraordinary man.
