Green Room Dedication to Billy DeMetsenaere

On September 22, 2019, the Rochester theatre community learned of the tragic loss of one of the brightest lights, Billy DeMetsenaere. Billy's warmth and excitement regarding every show he was in and every person he met was palpable. He gave so incredibly much, often staying late or pulling all-nighters to help make the shows he worked on a success.
In honor and recognition of this incredible actor, singer, and friend, OFC Creations is raising funds to renovate and dedicate, in perpetuity, a newly created green room within the OFC Creations Theatre Center.
The OFC Creations Theatre Center, opening late Summer, 2020, is a 9,600-square-foot venue with a 260-seat theatre that will host professional touring and local performances and community events alongside educational programming for youth ages 4 to 18.
The green room is often heralded as the place where the cast bonds the most, sharing tidbits of wisdom, experience, and camaraderie with one another. Part of these funds will also be used to dedicate the theatre seat next to his to his grandmother who was his biggest supporter in the arts so they may always sit together and have the best seat to the show.
We know that performers will feel at peace in the Billy DeMetsenaere Green Room knowing their friend and fellow performer will continue to be right there with them, in the place that he loved the most, the theater.
If ever a person could light up a room, Billy's infectious sense of humor and quick wit surely would take the cake. His smile and laughter are among the things we wish Billy could have left behind with us. Billy also was one of the most supportive and cordial people around; if Billy knew someone was struggling, he would be right there for them, offering support in whatever way he could.
Throughout the course of his Rochester career in performance, Billy worked with nearly every theatre company: JCC, Blackfriars, RAPA, MuCCC, OFC Creations, Geva, ETC, the list goes on and on. Although naming his favorite roles was like naming his favorite breath, Billy highly enjoyed playing Santa Claus around the holidays -- he loved to see the reactions from children experiencing that Santa is really real!
