Remembering Dr. Andy Jassal

Donation protected
Last month, Dr. Inderjit (Andy) Jassal passed on leaving behind his beloved family at the age of 42. Andy was a devoted father to his three young boys, a devoted husband, son, brother, friend and a family physician in Surrey, BC. Andy’s passing has devastated those who knew him and those who did not.

Andy was born and raised in the Lower Mainland. After high school, he attended University of BC for his Bachelor’s degree. He continued his studies at the University Of Sydney, Australia to obtain his medical degree and then returned to British Columbia. At UBC, he completed his final medical training to become a family physician. He made many friends along the way; got married and created a beautiful family with his lovely wife and three young sons. Andy was known as a kind and generous person who cared for many and was always the first to offer a helping hand.

On the morning of Saturday March 20th, Andy felt tightness in his chest and presented to the emergency room. Unfortunately despite multiple attempts by many dedicated medical staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital he died from a massive heart attack at a young age of 42. Sadly, his little boys will never have their dad take them to school, or a playground, or laugh and cry with them. They will not have their daddy watch them grow up and go through life.

The medical community is a tight knit community; many knew Andy well. Some knew him as a friend, others as a colleague. All were profoundly affected by his unexpected death. We would like to draw attention to heart health and the impact it can have on not just those whose suffer from the illness but also their partner, parents, children, siblings, and friends. Those left behind suffer for life in many ways. We encourage everyone to consult their family doctors to learn more about heart disease.

We are thankful for Andy’s service to his patients and his profession. His children will grow up knowing that their father was a role model for our community. To show our gratitude, we would like to lighten the burden for his family so they can take time to heal. We are asking everyone who is able to donate to help raise funds to support his three young boys. We offer our deepest condolences to the Jassal family and pray for their healing during this difficult time.
