Remember Mom Donations

My name is Katarina Chapa Garcia and I a mom of a soon-to-be 3 year old. Two weeks after my son was born, I was hospitalized for my severe episode of postpartum depression after feeling completely helpless as a mother. After a year of therapy and medication, I am thankful to have recovered from such a dark time in my life.
Since my experience with postpartum depression, I have made it my mission to share my story so that other women feel less alone. I am now on a mission to create a non-profit that provides low-income women with essentials for both mom and baby. Low-income, minority women are at a substantially increased risk for developing postpartum depression, so our hope is to help alleviate a portion of the financial burden women, here in the Coastal Bend, face as they enter motherhood.
We plan on taking donations of gently-used baby items such as clothes, baby gear, and books soon once we get a storage unit to house our inventory. Our idea for our non-profit, Remember Mom, is currently in the semi-finals of a national competition called the United by Purpose Project, hosted by the National Society of Leadership and Success. The purpose of the project is to provide equality for all, and our hope is to do so by providing women with items they may lack as new mothers.
Aside from our goal of beginning to take donations of baby items for our organization, we would also like to begin taking monetary donations for items that we will need to purchase as they cannot be donated used. This will include mainly items like diapers, baby wipes, and pacifiers. All money donated through this GoFundMe page will be set aside for specifically these items.
Being a mother is difficult, especially through a pandemic. We hope to officially take off with distributing donations in the month of March as many women need this help more than ever.
