Relocation for my father

Donation protected
Hey everyone, I'm reaching out on behalf of my father (unbeknownst to him) who lost his job back in November 2017. Like so many others over the last decade he found his situation to be steadily declining from full time work with wages enough to get by to decreased hours and finally a layoff resulting in depleting what savings he'd managed to put together.

At nearly 60 it's been a challenge, to say the least, to find steady work that pays what is necessary to survive. I've stepped in over the last few months to pick up what slack I can but we've reached a point that a more drastic solution is necessary.

I've spent the last week formulating a plan to help him relocate to Utah to live with his brother to get back on his feet but there are a handful of things to consider financially. We live 2,000 miles from one another (he in Illinois and I in California) so trying to help coordinate all of the details from a distance is tough but we're working through it. He's been severely ill with this strain of flu and that's only making the situation more difficult to navigate from his end. I've worked out what I think it will take to get him moved and to cover his most basic living expenses for a span of 6 months. Our goal is to have him on a flight to Utah by the end of March so we can avoid having to pay rent for April and he can get on the road to self sufficiency yet again. He's an incredibly hard worker, always has been, but he needs opportunities that haven't been found where he is and time is running short.

He's a good man. He's a proud man. He would never dream of asking for help from anyone and that's why I have to swallow my own distaste for doing the same. If it weren't truly down to this option then I wouldn't be writing this now. But the time has come to ask for help because he needs it and I know that his best years can still be ahead if we can just right the ship.

Thanks for your time, for anything you might choose to give and for your positive thoughts...for goodness lies in the small things.
