Help Jedi with medical expenses

Donation protected
Hello everyone my name is Alainah Long. With such a heavy heart I ask so kindly if everyone can take a minute to read my son Jedi’s story. On October 29th I was out at the store when I got the call from his pediatrician. “I got the results back in from his blood test and your son has lead poisoning it’s at 76.4” 76.4 is an extremely high near fatal amount to be in anyone’s body let alone an 18 month old baby. The effects of lead poisoning is irreversible and causes brain and other organ damage. Jedi was taken to RUSH hospital immediately where they later that day transferred him to comer children’s hospital where he was in the ICU for days. He received shots in his thighs every 4 hours and an oral medication every 8 hours. The Chicago public health department came to my apartment while we were still in the hospital and found lead throughout the whole building. Jedi was released from the hospital November 3rd He couldn’t go back home. We stayed at a hotel until we did appropriate actions to clean up the apartment so it was “less” hazardous. Which was board up the windows with plywood and plastic everything. The landlord is aware and said it’s best we move. Which we did immediately, spending all of our savings in the process. ($5,500) It doesn’t show any signs of lead which is good. We are very grateful and relieved to remove Jedi from that toxic living environment. Jedi now must receive therapies for speech , occupational, developmental, feeding ,and physical therapy and is scheduled for more evaluations. Jedi doesn’t speak and has pica due to the lead poisoning. We need help with medical bills and care. He will need ongoing treatment due to the intensity of the lead level and damage it’s done to his overall health. If anyone could share and/or donate it will be highly appreciated. Due to the cost of living rising, and now all these appointments and his special care, we are kind of drowning and need a hand. We are a loving, hard working blue collar family of 7 and could use a helping hand from our community.

Exposure to lead can seriously harm a child’s health and cause well-documented adverse effects such as: • Damage to the brain and nervous system • Slowed growth and development • Learning and behavior problems • Hearing and speech problems
