i had a hysterectomy in may of 2023. it was a life-changing, gender-affirming procedure that i was determined to have as soon as possible, no matter the cost. i braced myself for the worst, intending to just "figure it out". i was relieved when i saw the bill and it was much lower than i'd feared: $1,700.62. at the time, i felt i could manage the cost myself and didn't want to take resources away from anyone else who might need the money more.

i did manage to pay off the entire bill as of last month! but the payments were charged to my credit card, as are most of my expenses, and i began to struggle to cover my card's balance each month. so while the bill is technically paid, the cost of the surgery still waits for me within a pile of credit card debt i accumulated in my attempt to cover it myself. i realize now that $1,700 truthfully was not in my budget, and if i'd asked for help back then, i might not be facing the debt i'm facing now.

i feel so awkward asking for help nearly two years post-surgery. but getting a hysterectomy was one of the best decisions i've ever made for my own health and wellbeing; the only regret i've had is not asking for help. so i've hesitantly opened this fund to give others the chance to contribute to the cost of my surgery, if they feel so inclined. any donations will go directly towards the debt i incurred to pay for the procedure.

i'm posting this with hopes for a more achievable path to financial stability, but also with zero expectations of anyone. any amount given (no matter how small) would be a relief and a greatly appreciated weight off my shoulders. but even if no one feels able to donate right now, i'm still lucky to be surrounded by amazing people who love and support me and who support my transition.
