On June 5 2017, LVMPD Officer Ken Lopera was charged by the Clark County District Attorney’s office for Involuntary Manslaughter and Oppression under color of office. This action was a direct result of actions during the course and scope of his duties on May 14, 2017. Based on the charges, the LVMPD has placed him on Relief of Duty WITHOUT pay status.
It should be noted, the LVPPA is covering ALL legal expenses in defending Officer Lopera against these charges.
The Relief of Duty WITHOUT pay status does however present significant personal financial difficulties moving forward. It is very likely this will be a long, arduous and stressful road ahead for Officer Lopera and his family. Please feel free to donate if you so desire. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
