Hurricane Melissa has left a devastating mark on my community in Garden Hill District, St. Catherine, and the Black River area in St. Elizabeth. Many families have lost their homes, and the flooding has taken lives and destroyed the places we rely on most. Our local primary school, Garden Hill Primary, and Garden Hill Methodist Church have both suffered severe damage, making it even harder for us to come together and support each other during this crisis. Communication is difficult, and many are still trying to reach loved ones and organize relief efforts.

 Right now, the most urgent needs are food, clean water, and temporary shelter for those who have lost everything. The storm flattened homes and left many families without a safe place to stay. I am working to connect with local church leaders and community members to make sure help reaches those who need it most, but the damage to our churches and schools has made this even more challenging. Despite these hardships, our community remains united and determined to rebuild.

 We Jamaicans are strong and resilient people. Even in the face of disaster, we put God first and support one another.
