On Friday November 18th,2017 my friend Catherine St. George found out that she had breast cancer, invasive ductal carcinoma. Since then she has had many tests, scans, and medical consultations to chart the course for her upcoming surgery and treatments. While insurance will hopefully cover most there is a lot that she will have to cover herself.
Catherine is a single mother/sole caretaker of two young girls. She works three (sometimes four) different jobs per week in order to both maintain financially and care for her daughters. In addition Catherine has recently moved her sister Maureen from NY to Los Angeles to come live with her due to her Maureen recently going through some very serious but treatable health issues.
The work that Catherine does is either as an independent contractor or as a part-time services coordinator for a non-profit organization. None of her work pays for sick days, medical leave, or any sort of time off. Basically, Catherine only gets paid for the time she is working with no exceptions. She currently lives on a month to mont basis regarding her income and bills, with little to nothing left over. This is why I’m reaching out to her friends and family to please help where they can.
Catherine’s surgery is scheduled for Friday January 26th, 2018. Additional treatment will begin once she has healed from the surgery.
