Release The Hammer

Before 2012, Den (aka The Hammer) was the strongest person I knew. A former competitive bodybuilder, there was nothing Den could not lift. However, in 2012, Den started having neurological issues. He visited many Doctors and Hospitals. All said his neurological problems stemmed from his neck and that his vertebrates C-1 thru C-5 were crushing his spinal cord. Additional blood work was ordered to rule out any other illnesses.  Nothing else was diagnosed. Den's only option was to have surgery. Den had a total laminectomy of the neck on 8/20/2014. Little did he know he was already infected with Lyme Disease. The Surgery combined with the Lyme infection had practically paralyzed him. After seeing several more specialists, he finally tested positive for Lyme Disease. However, because he went years without being properly diagnosed, he suffered major nerve damage in his hands, feet, arms, and legs. He now lives in constant pain. As the disease progressed, he lost the use of his fine motor skills and has continuous numbness in all his limbs. 

Today, he is still struggling. It has affected his life and work. However, he remains positive and believes he can turn things around. Treatment for Lyme disease is very misunderstood in the U.S. If Den was diagnosed before surgery, during his countless blood panels, his road to recovery would have been much easier. As it stands, Den is being told by his doctors that his current treatments have gone as far as they can go. He is still suffering the effects of Lyme Disease with the combination of the surgery.
