Dear Friends,
Thanks to your prayer and support, Antonio is now released from the GPS device that encumbered his ankle for the last three months. His bond has been completely paid off. This huge milestone on Antonio's journey to freedom would not have been possible without you.
Antonio is a great learner. He daily attends ESL classes at two locations. He is a gift to our St. Luke's Episcopal Church community. He assists the church with a variety of maintenance and beautification tasks. He also serves in the St. Luke’s shower and meal programs to support our community members who have no housing. He has participated in several social justice events in Long Beach, and his physical and emotional health have significantly improved.
He is still waiting for his work permit so that he can earn a living in the U.S. Therefore, your continuous support in meeting some of his daily needs until he receives a work permit will be a tremendous gift. Our hopes and prayers are that he would be granted asylum at his court date in December. Will you consider to continously support Antonio on his journey to a new life of safety and freedom?

Dios los bendiga a cada uno de ustedes. Espero que esten bien. Quiero agradecerle de todo corazon a todos ustedes por todo su apollo incondicional que me han brindado. Me siento muy alegre porque en el 15 de marso, fui hacia a Los Angeles con Ann y mi abogado a la oficina de Libre by Nexus para que me quitaran el GPS. Estoy muy agradecido con todos ustedes porque se que han hecho todo para que yo saliera de la detension y me siguen apoyando. GRACIAS DE CORAZON. Gracias por darme una oportunida para empesar una nueva vida.

I feel happy because on March 15, I went up to Los Angeles to the offices of Libre by Nexus to get the GPS removed. Dear Friends,
We want to say THANK YOU for your support and prayers and we want to INVITE YOU to continue supporting Antonio in his fight for justice. He is currently hosted by St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Long Beach while he waits for his court hearing in March, to obtain political asylum.
Antonio’s health has been improving since he was released from the detention center where he found maggots in his food and fellow detainees hanging themselves in his cell. Thanks to St. Luke's hospitality, he has been provided with healthy food, proper rest, and healthcare.
As you can see, we remain short of our goal of $9,000 for Antonio's bail bond. If he cannot meet his monthly payments, he may be reported to immigration authorities and taken back to the detention center.
While waiting for his court hearing, Antonio is not allowed to work. Therefore, he continues to need our support. As people of faith and conscience, we have the opportunity to extend radical compassion to our brother. Will you support Antonio on his courageous journey?

Antonio is currently being held at the Adelanto Detention Center. He is 28 years old. The gangs in Honduras where he comes from threatened to kill him when he refused to cooperate with them to sell drugs out of his small convenience store. He and his family fled to Mexico for refuge, where his wife and children were granted asylum. However, he was not granted asylum because he was unable to provide a marriage certificate. When he came to the U.S. he immediately filed a legal claim for asylum. Applicants for asylum are routinely housed in detention centers. Antonio’s first hearing was held on October 3, 2017, when his bail was set at $30,000. His bail was later reduced to $12,000, and now through the work of his attorney, to $9,000.
His next hearing is scheduled for December 15, 2017 at the detention facility. The judge he is assigned to is notorious for immediately deporting people without due process. In addition, according to his lawyer, Antonio has been physically sick and clinically depressed. He has been subjected to inhumane treatment and substandard food for months at Adelanto. If Antonio's bail is paid before December 15, he will have a chance to recover from sickness and be given a new hearing date in the immigration court in Los Angeles. His release from detention prior to December 15 will give him the greatest chance of being granted asylum.
Antonio needs your help! St. Luke's Episcopal Church has already prepared a place for him to stay upon his release. Will you help Antonio raise $9000 for his bond fund?
