Rehoming Cats Fundraiser

Donation protected
On September 22nd my mother Betty passed away.  This story is going to be incredibly difficult to share and only some people know the whole story.

When Dad passed away 8 years ago, it took a horrible toll on Mom.  Over the past 8 years, my brother and I tried to get Mom to come out West to live with us but she didn't want to leave her home where her and Dad shared their lives for over 50 years.

This is where her situation began.  Mom always had an incredible love for animals and growing up we always had several animals around and she nursed back to health animals of all sorts.  She healed cats, dogs, birds, chipmunks, rabbits and more.  She really should have been a vet, she would have been amazing in that field.

Over the past 8 years, she began accumulating cats.  Some because she couldn't afford to fix them and they multiplied and because I strongly believe that people took advantage of her and dropped off random cats on the property because they knew she would take care of them and that way they didn't have to feel guilty about their terrible choice.

Our family has known she's had a problem for years, and although many people won't understand why they feel we didn't do more but close friends of Mom know that it wasn't from a lack of trying but her life became her cats.  It became an illness.  So when Mom passed away we found out just how bad things had gotten.  It turned out that there were close to 100 cats at the house.  Mom spent all her money and time taking care of them.  She stopped taking care of herself so that the cats were always fed and watered.

I will not go into to further details about our Mom, except to say, that in working with the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society and various rescues we were able to save more than 70% of the cats and kittens.  Unfortunately, some of the little angels didn't make it but already many have found forever homes and some have gone to farms to live in barns (due to them being feral).

Due to the sheer amount of animals that needed to be captured, cared for, medically checked, spayed and neutered and all the incidentals that come with it, the cost for the Humane Society has been very extensive.  I want to be able to assist the Humane Society with this cost and so this fundraiser is to raise money to return the generosity, the understanding and the time all the people spent with us getting the animals out.

Donations, no matter how big or small will be very much appreciated.
