Rehabilitation for Chase

Hi, my name is  Priscilla,  I'm a native of Georgia & mother of four. I have a testimony that I would like to share with the world.  I would like to tell you a little about my son Chase. Chase is thirty-one years old, successfully completed his bachelor at Georgia State University.  He's a website designer, writer and film maker (his own company 8PPRODUCTIONS). He's even written and filmed two short films. He loves hiking, bike riding, collectingAfrican artifact, photography and travel. He's active in his community and volunteers! He's well loved & supported by his peers. On Friday August 25th 2016 Chase flew to New York to visit a friend to. While he was there, I received the call; every mother's mightmare. My son had collapsed on the floor of his friend's bathroom. He was taken by ambulance to Columbia Presbyterian hospital. Ruptured brain aneurysm & haemorrhage of the brain. I flew to New york that very same day. Four weeks later doctors got removed the aneurysm. Chase had some memory loss & had no ideal what happened. With at least eight weeks of physical therapy ahead of him, Chase s Was expected to make a full recovery. During his eight week stay in the hospital Chase developed blood clots in his lungs and legs and diabetes. He was put on a blood thinners to prevent more blood clots. Eight weeks later Chase was sent to Helen Hayes, a rehabilitation facility. On his first day of physical therapy, Chase complained of a really bad headache. He was taken to a local hospital & given a CAT scan. Doctors determined that Chase was bleeding around his brain. He started vomiting and became incredibly ill. He was rushed back to Columbia Presbyterian hospital. This was one of the longest & scariest ride of my life! The sound of that siren and the ambulance at top speed, horn blowing for thirty minutes was unbearable. Chase trembled and fought for his life the entire ride. Once we arrived,Chase was immediately taken to the operating room. He had to have a craniotomies "brain surgery" to remove a piece of his skull "bone flap".  After five hours of surgery, doctors told me surgery went well and but that Chase was still very ill. I walked into his room; I had never seen anyone hooked up to so many machines. After surgery, Chase was put into a medically induced comma for four weeks. He was swollen from head to toe. He was on so many medications. A feeding tube in his stomach. Chase had to have a Tracheostomy surgeory to create a hole in his neck, placing a tube in his neck to help him breathe. Four weeks later doctors began  reducing the amount of anasteshia he was receiving. In a meeting with the doctors, they informed me that if his blood pressure kept rising, Chase could possibly have a heart attack and go into a comma or even die. I walked out of room before she finishedher sentence. I sat by Chase's bedside and held his hand day and night. A flicker of an eyelash or a movement of a finger was good enough for me. I sang, talked, read & prayed faithfully. God is Alpha & Omega and I knew he had his hands on this situation. Chase stayed in ICU for four months but slowly started opening his eyes. The breathing tube was removed & he was breatheing on his own. Weeks later we were sent back to Helen Hayes rehabilitation for more rehab "without the bone flap". It was really hard for me watching Chase trying to learn to do all the things he used to do so easily.  After eight weeks of intense theraph we were sent back to Columbia Presbyterian for the cramium plastic surgeory to replace bone flap. Three weeks later a CAT scan showed an infection of the bone flap. Chase was placed on antibiotics, given various test, MRI & another CAT scan. Three weeks later Chase had another brain surgery to remove the infected cranium plastic & four weeks later, without the bone flap, we were sent back to Helen Hayes. After a long wait for infectious disease, we gkt the okay to replace the boneflap. Chase had the surgery it went well. So here we are eleven months later. - June 28, 2017. The worst part is over. Chase has made a miraculous recovery. Working very hard toward his rehabilitation. His feeding tube has been removed & he's eating. Chase has made a lot of progress but he has quite a bit of brain damage & we're not exactly where we want to be in his recovery. Chase has another eight to ten weeks of physical theraphy at Helen Hayes.  With clerance Chase and I will be traveling back to Georgia where he will continue therapy. With this journey, I've been unable to work & so has Chase. We're asking for help with his recovery and rebuilding our life. This is our story & thank you for reading.
