¡Una rehabilitación de vida!
En octubre del año pasado me asaltaron en un Starbucks junto con mi mamá. Debido a la insensatez y cobardía de los asaltantes, me dieron 3 disparos que milagrosamente no fueron letales, pero dañaron mi medula espinal y ahora tengo una lesión que me impide caminar, así como afrontar el hecho de que mi madre falleció.
Afortunadamente estoy vivo y con mucho ánimo de salir adelante, he contado con el apoyo de muchos amigos y familiares, mucha gente de buena fe que busca ayudar en lo que sea posible. Hasta ahora, he buscado opciones por todos lados para rehabilitar lo más posible en mi situación. Mi lesión es incompleta y está en la vertebra de tórax 9, pero se ha desarrollado un buen progreso y ya puedo sentir y mover completamente hasta la cadera, lo cual ha sido un gran avance. Sin embargo, todo lo involucrado con una rehabilitación de lesión medular requiere mucho esfuerzo y en muchas ocasiones un capital fuerte.
En estos 7 meses de recuperación, los terapeutas y médicos se han sorprendido de mi evolución, pues mi persistencia y tenacidad en mejorar han logrado que tenga una mejoría de un trabajo mayor a un año.
Actualmente estoy en un protocolo del INR (Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación) en el que me colocarían una bomba de baclofeno el cual disminuiría en gran medida la rigidez de mis piernas, a fin de poder trabajar más y con mejores resultados. Aunque esta bomba es cara, el INR la donaría.
Todos los equipos ortopédicos que se usan en la rehabiltación y en la vida diaria, tienen que ser diseñados a la medida, con materiales especiales, toman tiempo en hacerlos y no hay tal cosa como una opción "económica" y útil.
Es por esto que para poder ser independiente, terminar mi carrera en Ingeniería en Telecomunicaciones y Sistemas Electrónicos, trabajar y salir adelante, les pido ayuda para conseguir lo siguiente:
- Una silla de ruedas activa, está hecha a la medida para mantener una postura óptima, subir y bajar banquetas, rampas y ¡hasta escaleras! Esta la coticé en Ottobock y tiene un valor de $70,000 mxn
- Dentro de las actividades que más ayudan en la rehabilitación, está el hacer ejercicio de forma regular. En este año, me encantaría hacer deporte, correr en las competencias de Maratón en silla de ruedas, e incluso el Paralímpico, y aunque ya estoy entrenando, para esto se necesita una silla de ruedas de pista especial, que coticé en Invacare y tiene un valor de $80,000.
Con ambos equipos, podría ser completamente independiente y vivir una vida plena y llena de éxitos y alegrías.
Mi mayor motivación para superar este siniestro, es salir adelante ante todo obstáculo y honrar la memoria de mi madre, con todo lo que me enseñó y dió por mi.

Last October, I was mugged at a Starbucks in Mexico with my mom. Because the foolishness and cowardice of the thiefs, I got 3 shots which almost miraculously were not lethal, but damaged my spinal cord and now I have an injury that unables me to walk and also face the fact that my mother is no longer with me.
Luckily I am alive and with lots of encouragement to succeed, I've had the support of many friends and family, many people of good faith seeking to help as much as possible. So far, I've looked for options everywhere to rehabilitate myself as much as possible. My injury is incomplete in the 9th thoracic vertebra, but has developed a good progress and I can already feel and move completely up to the hip, which has been a breakthrough. However, everything involved with spinal cord injury rehabilitation requires a lot of effort and very often a strong investment.
In 7 months of recovery, therapists and doctors were surprised at my progress, for my persistence and tenacity have made an improvement of more than a year work.
I am currently in a protocol to the INR (National Rehabilitation Institute) where I would get a baclofen pump which will greatly decrease the stiffness in my legs, in order to be able to work harder and with better results. Although this pump is expensive, the INR would donate it.
All orthopedic equipment used in rehabilitation and in everyday use, must be custom designed with special materials, which takes time to make and there is no such thing as an "economic" and useful option.
That is why in order to be independent, finish my career in Telecommunications Engineering and Electronic Systems, work and move forward, I'd like to ask for help the get the following:
- An active wheelchair, which is tailored to maintain optimal posture, be able to go up and down curbs, ramps and even stairs! I quoted this in Otto Bock and has a value of $5,550 usd
- Among the activities that help in rehabilitation is exercise done regularly. This year, I'd love to play sports, run a Marathon in wheelchair, and why not, even the Paralympics. Although I am already training daily, I need a special racing wheelchair, which I quoted in Invacare and has a value of $6,200 usd.
With both devices I would be able to be completely independent and live a full life and full of successes and joys.
My biggest motivation to overcome this sinister incident is to overcome any obstacle, to move forward and honor the memory of my mother, for all she thaught me and everything I am because of her love.
