Regino's GBS Recovery

Donation protected
On November 2nd, 2017, my father had been admitted to the hospital after a sudden loss of his mobility in his legs. What started out as a sleepy and tingling feet, and then excruciating pain in his legs that grew further and further up his body, had all of a sudden made his extremities dysfunctional. Baffled at what is going on, my father tried battling through the pain and began his day struggling to get out of bed. Once he managed to get to the bedside he stood up, but couldn't find the strength to move his feet. Still trying, he takes a few steps forward saying that he felt tingling pain and then suddenly falls straight flat to his face, where he now felt that he could not move. We asked him if he could roll over, we asked him if he could push his body up, but he said his body was not responding and the pain would ascend much higher. My brothers picked him up and carried him to the car where he was then taken to the ER. He was put through many procedures to try and figure out the cause of this sudden paralysis. After atleast 30 tubes of blood draws, 2 MRI's, and then finally a lumbar puncture; doctors finally gave the diagnosis of Guillain-Barré Syndrome which is a condition in where the immune system attacks its nervous system after an infection. This disease is very rare, only happening in 1 and 20,000 people in the US, and could be caused by something as simple as the flu, stomach virus, and in even rarer cases a vaccination. In a nutshell, basically this disease fractures his myelin sheaths(nervous system cords) that disrupts the ability of his brain to send signals to his body that make him move. The disconnection of his brain to his body causes one to be suddenly paralyzed and feel extreme weakness.
Currently Regino is at a rehabilitation hospital in hopes of regaining his strength and gaining back his ability to care for himself. He still has long recovery time ahead of him and he will be out of work for a minimum of 3-6 months. Recovery time can vary, and could take longer than projected and could leave Regino and his family in a financial crisis with his medical bills looking to rise, and his property tax due up at the beginning of the year, as well as other household bills. Many of his friends and family asked what they can do to help, so I decided to create this page on behalf of my father, as he begins his road to recovery so that he can provide for his family again.  GBS is a family illness, we are all behind our fathers recovery by sitting days and nights with him at the hospital feeding him and making sure he is happy. We will post updates, pictures, and videos along the way, and hope that he can walk around his house soon! Thank you all who have visited this page, anything will help! A small donation, a prayer, a share is all greatly appreciated :)
