As a registered nurse, Regina pursued years of education and was a trusted member of the healing profession. Her heart for healing was evident in the ways she tenderly cared for the ill, provided council and advocacy for families in medical crisis, and educated local communities on the importance of tending to body, mind and soul for optimum health.
In recent years she noticed unexplained symptoms. As they escilated and her quality of life deteriorated this single mother made the difficult decision to exit the workforce in order to restore her own health in September of 2016. With each passing month Regina expected improvement and kept her spirits high. However, with each specialist, test, medication, and holistic option explored her savings dwindled and her condition worsened.
Finally after over a year of digging through medical research an answer presented itself: a benign pineocytoma which is sitting on the pineal gland in her brain. This rare growth is coupled with a rare autoimmune disease leaving Regina with profound vision loss& disturbance, nausea, pain, dizziness, fatigue, cognitive "fuzziness", and terrible photo-sensitivity. Even opening her East facing front door causes extreme pain and simple tasks like cooking or showering leave her exhausted. Recently she received the good news that her benign pineocytoma can be surgically removed. In April she will travel out of state to one of the few doctors in the country who can help; her surgery is scheduled on April 13. This is fantastic news!
Regina has used ALL of her savings to pay for medical expenses, in addition to supporting herself and Noah throughout her illness. Our hope is to raise enough funds to relieve the financial burden associated with her illness, travel expenses for surgery, upcoming medical bills and general living expenses until her recovery.
Just as we know the road to recovery is long, we know it is filled with the blessings of friends who can to support she and Noah in the coming months pre and post surgery. Regina devoted her career to healing as an RN, and now it is time for her to be a care receiver.
