Refugia'l is an initiative that focuses on improving the environment for refugees living and waiting across camps in Greece. For the month of August, we will be in Athens where we organize a series of activities and workshops aimed to develop skills and make these difficult times and conditions more bearable for residents.
We are looking for donations to help cover the cost of food, clothing, and other important supplies for the community. In addition to supplies, we organize English classes, sewing and bike repair workshops, gardening, sports, trips to the beach for children, and many more activities.
Our goal is to provide enjoyable routines so that participants are accustomed and ready to integrate back into a regular lifestyle when the time comes. The money we raise here will go towards the purchase of necessary resources for thousands of brave refugees who have survived this devastating situation.
The small organization was started by 8 friends from Spain last year (2016). The founders, and most of the volunteers, are Valencian so the official Facebook page is written in Catalan. If you have any questions you would like answered in English please feel free to contact me.
For those of you that don't know me personally, I am a 25 year old Canadian woman living and working in Spain as an English teacher. I was fortunate to meet one of the organization's founders during a backpacking trip through Morocco this Spring, where he told me about this initiative and his experience last year. The work they've done is inspiring and I couldn't be more excited to be involved!
