Reforest Yellowstone Creek Ranch

Help Us Rebuild the Forest:

I am John Anderson, a business partner and friend of Ricky and Justin.  During July 2018, the Spring Creek Wildfire destroyed nearly 109,000 acres in Southern Colorado. Yellowstone Creek Ranch, the mountain community was entirely incinerated during the Spring Fire which quickly became the 2nd largest wildfire in Colorado History.  Although some of the resident’s homes and ALL of the 1800 acres of old growth fir forest and high mountain meadows were destroyed by the wildfire, miraculously, 3 houses survived, one of which was Ricky and Justin's. Ricky has suffered weather tragedy before when his home was completely destroyed by the Wichita Falls 1979 Super Tornado.

Many of you have asked how to help.  The landowners within Yellowstone Creek Ranch plan to replant the forest as best they can.  Working with the Colorado Forestry Service, and within a really tight window of opportunity in which to order tree saplings, they hope to get their order in as soon as they can be submitted.  If you would like to help with the acquisition of saplings, the Forestry Service is offering a tree mix of Aspen, Blue Spruce, White Fir, Ponderosa Pine, and Lodgepole Pine at $3 ea. or 30 trees for $90.  The trees will be planted development wide to not just replace the beauty that was once there, but to help regenerate the habitat of the wildlife that once called that area home; the Elk, Mule Deer, Black Bear, Bobcat, and more…  Any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated and much welcomed.

As many of the contributors are quilters, TheQuiltShow.com will handle the funds. Our accountant will segregate the funds and issue the checks. The funds raised will be used to purchase trees from the forest service over three years to stagger the planting to assure better replantation. This avoids all of the trees being planted in one year which could have weather-related issues and cause a higher mortality rate.

The Yellowstone Creek landowners along with the local community will be working together to reforest this area of Southern Colorado.  Thank you for your help.
