"Meet me at The Rock!"
For over 30 years, "The Rock" was a fixture inside of Redmond High School. Thousands of students met friends, had club photos taken, and planned fun adventures at The Rock.
When Redmond High School opened in the Fall of 2013, The Rock was gone. Alumni often ask what happened to The Rock. Redmond High School is a school of tradition, and the heart of the school was no longer where generations of students used to see it.
Fortunately, the rock was not discarded, merely moved to the football field where it lay, essentially unnoticed, until one night when the Class of 2017 (a class that believes strongly in tradition) somehow moved The Rock to the front of the school and laid it on our literal doorstep.
The senior leaders want to bring The Rock back and restore it to a place of recognition. The plan is to place The Rock outside near the entrance to the school. Because of the size of The Rock, the school is working with 3 J's Masonry of Redmond, Oregon to build an 18 inch high base for The Rock to be placed upon. The Rock will be core drilled so that when lifted by a crane onto supports in the base, the returned school fixture will be safe.
The Rock also used to have a metal panther mounted to the top of it. According to student legend, the original panther is currently sitting at the bottom of Lake Billy Chinook. Seniors involved in the CTE program at RHS will be manufacturing a new panther for the top of The Rock using our updated "Walking Panther" logo.
We are not using instructional funds for this project. The senior class has made a donation of money they have raised, and we would love to have your support for the remaining amount! The fundraising target will pay for labor and materials costs. We are excited to bring this piece of Redmond High School tradition back to the community!
