In Memoriam: Redencion Tuminez

Donation protected
Redencion Sueta Segovia Tuminez, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and family matriarch, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 2, 2023. In the years and months leading up to her death, she was tirelessly cared for by her daughters and son, and her last weeks on earth were marked by songs, stories, tears, dancing, and plentiful laughter--much like her life. Her 8 children, 25 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way) are heartbroken by her departure, but incredibly proud of the strength and resilience with which she lived life. Her generosity, humor, determination, and sheer dedication to those she loved are a wonderful legacy we feel honored and privileged to uphold.

Her life was marked by overwhelming generosity and kindness. As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she fittingly passed on Palm Sunday, following her Savior into the heavens. We have many stories of our beloved "Nanay" and "Lola" following Christ's example of love by giving money, gifts, or whatever she had to meet the needs of strangers and neighbors alike. Those who know her story of motherhood, struggling to raise and provide for her children in one of the poorest slums in Iloilo City, Philippines, also know that their lives were irrevocably changed by nuns from Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus.

These charitable sisters found her children in their ministering duties and offered them free education at their private Catholic school for girls, which altered the course of her life, her children's lives, and all who came after. This was a direct answer to her prayers and solidified her faith in a God who cares deeply for his children. Her powerful, earnest prayers truly reached Heaven and later brought her family the blessings of the Gospel through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We are therefore asking, in lieu of flowers or other memorial gifts, for donations to San Roque Elementary School, a school near the village of Comian where young Redencion grew up. All donations will be used to upgrade the school's library and other facility upgrades. In doing so, you will be honoring our beloved mother's personal legacy of service, compassion, and love.

Memorial services TBD.
