Dear friends and wonderful supporters,
In 2008, our founder discovered a starving, abused and abandoned filly that was hours from being shipped to slaughter. She went out and bought a red bucket and 50 pounds of carrots, and spent the next 6 1/2 hours trying to catch the terrified filly. Once she finally caught her, she named her Harlow...and never let go. Today, Red Bucket continues to save those that have been victims of unspeakable abuse and provides a loving and safe landing place for these horses to receive the gift of time in which to heal, be rehabilitated, and be trained in preparation for their forever homes. Red Bucket has saved over 365 equines and found 230 forever homes for those we serve, and we are providing training and rehabilitation for dozens of others in preparation for their second chances.
Red Bucket takes a very firm stand on protecting the lives of the horses we save, and we do everything in our power to make up for a lifetime of abuse and neglect. While our mission truly is to find loving homes for the horses we rescue, the reality is that many of our horses come to us as victims of unspeakable brutality and have been damaged or are too old to be responsibly re-homed. This campaign will provide funds for us to purchase a sanctuary where our horses will have pasture and the gentle retirement that they deserve. By adding to our existing acreage, not only can we say “yes” to additional horses, we can also say “welcome home” to those we already serve. Not only will this land become a forever home for those who are unadoptable, it will also provide pasture for our youngsters who have been saved from the threat of horrific slaughter and allow for a healthy and safe childhood as they await training and the promise of their second chance.
