For Puerto Rico to recover, we must all contribute toward relief. And, we must do so now.
Hurricane Maria has left Puerto Rico on its knees. Residents are lacking in all basic necessities, the island has been reduced to branches and debris. Some of us are yet to hear from friends and family. My name is Tania; I'm a writer, administrator, and a Puerto Rican, born and raised in San Juan. I now live in New York, along with countless other Puerto Ricans whose families remain in the island and are currently struggling, day to day, in the wake of this storm.
I am collecting donations for the Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund. This fund is sponsored by Taller Salud, a small organization with huge impact in P.R. for which my friends volunteer. Please join me, and help get resources and aid to the communities in Puerto Rico that were most affected by this hurricane. Funds will provide water, food, medical supplies and other necessities to people most in need, and will also work toward the rebuilding of demolished areas.
Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund statement:
"The devastating effects of hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico are still unfolding, but one thing is certain—the island's most vulnerable communities are likely to be pummeled the hardest and face the longest road to recovery. Low-income communities of color often face the worst destruction and slowest recovery and have fewer resources to safeguard homes, vehicles, and other property. When the winds die down and the floods recede, these communities are often forgotten by reconstruction efforts, and underserved by insurance companies.
The Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund will be housed at the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD). One hundred percent of monies raised will be used to support immediate relief, recovery, and equitable rebuilding in Puerto Rico for the communities hit hardest by the storm. The Fund is governed by organizations like Puerto Rico-based Taller Salud, the G8 of Caño Martín Peña, and other local, grassroots organizations. The Fund will support organizations working with these hardest hit communities in Puerto Rico."
Your donation will significantly affect how Puerto Rico rises from this disaster. There is no forward without rebuilding, and there is no rebuilding alone. Thank you for your proactivity and generosity.
