Recovering Hope

Calling on community!

If you are able, I could use some help!

I hesitate to reveal this situation but without full disclosure, you cannot understand the extent of the need.

I will do my best to speak generally about the topic to protect the dignity of the person involved as much as is possible.

This past week, on June 14, 2019, the school year ended with summer stars in my eyes.
Unfortunately, I arrived home to find my brother, the last of my immediate family, laying on the floor in pain, dehydrated and hungry.  He had been unable to walk for weeks leaving his health, hygiene and environment in deplorable conditions.

I was emotionally unable to process what I was seeing but I knew at that moment that I was exchanging my interpreting hands for care-taking ones.

The past 2 years I noticed his memory slipping.  However, we weren't too concerned, yet.

Over the last year he grew increasingly worse.
His decline in cognitive function started to affect more than his memory.
His walk became a shuffle and his thoughts became a puzzle he couldn't put in words.
He physical limitations made it impossible to care for himself.

The last few months, while I was working miles away, his mobility took a dive leaving him confined to the couch requiring assistance to accomplish the most basic tasks.

He was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for an unknown infection  that has made its way into his bloodstream. He will remain in isolation until the infection is determined to be safe for visitors.

When he is well enough to leave the hospital, he will be taken to a rehabilitation center to start recovering his mobility.

During his stay, I am taking on the grueling task of cleaning and reconstructing the mother-in-law attachment to my house into a safe and sanitary environment for home care.

I am overwhelmed by the "to do" list and the costs involved so I am reaching out and praying someone will help.

I need support.

If you cannot support monetarily, there are other ways to support us in this journey of recovery hope for my brother.

Contact me to find out more ways to help or updates on our journey.

If you can do nothing else, there is power in prayer.  Pray for us.

Thank you,

Doretta
