On 12/7/2018 my brother and sister inside and outside of uniform, corrections officers Robert Reed and Nicole Nazario were victims in a attempted murder/suicide. Robert was shot 9 times in his chest, right hand, shoulder, and torso and was in critical condition not expected to survive. Nicole was shot 3 times in her abdomen and face and was in critical condition. By the grace of God, Robert and Nicole survived the encounter and started the long road to recovery. Robert and Nicole needed to relearn basic functions like sitting walking and other daily activities. Robert is still recovering and is in out patient rehab for his right hand.
Before the incident, Robert was responsible for taking care of his mother and elderly aunt. Now he is trying to support 2 households. At this time both Robert and Nicole are physically unable to return to their previous jobs. After being hospitalized for 2 months, Robert still has extensive right hand and wrist damage that requires additional surgery. Robert is right handed. His left shoulder is frozen. Nicole was given a colostomy and at this time is still too ill to have her reversal surgery.
The two Officers haven’t been paid since early August and Robert’s medical insurance has temporarily been shut off making him unable to attend his thrice weekly physical therapy appointments. Robert and Nicole have both been diagnosed with PTSD. They have amassed thousands of dollars in medical bills over the last 10 months. They are struggling to pay their monthly bills as they currently have no income.
Robert was a New York State correction officer for 3 and half years and a Westchester county correction officer for 2 years. Nicole has been a Westchester county correction officer for 7 years.
All donations and support received will go towards their medical bills, continued medical treatments, financial obligations and the rest of their basic needs. I love these two good hearted people very much and hope that you find it in your heart to support them in anyway possible. Thank you for taking your time to consider their circumstance and please share it with as many as possible.
