The morning of October 26th, 2019 our lives were forever changed. We woke up to a call that Benjamin had been shot in the early morning hours and that he did not survive his injuries.

It was the most surreal feeling, to have just spoken with your loved one and then to wake up and realize he had been taken from his family, friends, and loved ones in the most tragic way.

Benji was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Sioux Falls a decade prior to pursue a better life. It’s mind blowing that he would  loose his life in the city he believed would provide him better opportunities for himself and one day his family.

Benjamin lived and breathed his 22-Month old daughter Serenity. I know plenty of good fathers and I applaud all of them, but the type of father Benjamin was to his daughter was on another level completely. His entire life revolved around Serenity and providing a good life for her. Heart-breaking doesn’t begin to describe how we feel knowing she will grow up never remembering her father’s love for her or that she won’t have her father there for any of her milestones or best and worst days growing up. Her mother is now a single parent and will struggle to raise her and provide for her alone, not because she had an absentee father but because someone took him from them in the most selfish way.

Benjamin was injured on the job a couple of years ago and had major back surgery as a result of the injuries he sustained. Due to that, he was not currently working and didn’t have any insurance policies to help cover the costs of his funeral. His mother has never had to bury a child and we had no idea how costly the arrangements are. It is a huge strain on the family at a time when everyone is still grieving the loss of someone they loved dearly. We are asking that anyone who would like to help, please donate to the funeral expenses so we are able to lay Benji A.K.A. “The GENTLE Giant” to rest properly. Every donation helps, even the smallest amount.

We’d like to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes the family appreciates all of the support.
