Rebuilding Our Lives

Donation protected
On August 26th (Saturday) my wife and our boys talked about Hurricane Harvey coming to Texas. We were told it wasn't going to flood on Saturday, and that none of the houses in my neighborhood were required to have flood insurance. No one was told the homes were built in a 500 year flood plain. Hurricane Harvey was an event that is now considered a 800 year flood event.  It's catastrophic.

It was a nonstop rain from Saturday to Sunday, and our boys and I went to pick up some friends whose house is in the lower part of our subdivision (Canyon Gate Cinco Ranch) to evacuate them to our home. We got back to our house after an hour long walk, to a knee deep flooded area in our subdivision.

The next morning, Monday (August 28), we went to another friend's house to help them evacuate to our home, but this time it took longer to reach our home because the flood was now waist deep or higher. In the afternoon, our friends who lived outside of Canyon Gate called us and told us to evacuate too because the Barker Reservoir and bayou was overflowing. They also said that there was still water from upstream that will flood our area, and I didn't know how high the water will end up being.
So around 4 PM we decided to evacuate. Our friends from outside of Canyon Gate arranged our evacuation, they called the coastguards and all other rescuers in our area. One of them (Jay) even came with the Coast Guard to make sure they would reach us. We were able to leave our house, but were only told to bring only 1 bag.  So we packed 2 pairs of clothes, each.

Canyon Gate is now 100% under water, at least 7 feet or higher in other area. We also heard news that the water enter our house. We even watched a video on the news and saw our cars on the driveway submerged in water.  We're safe now, but we don't know what we're going to do. We can't go back yet, the Sheriff is not letting anyone to go back inside Canyon Gate because it still flooded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as we are starting over. Thank you very much.
