ReBUILD with Brett Waller

My friend and creative partner, Brett Waller, a full-time working artist, has spent the last three years working to develop an artist-in-residency program in a home along the shores of the Ribault River in northwest Jacksonville. He was excited to launch programming this fall. Hurricane Irma flooded Brett's home with 2-3' of water. Like many in unfortunate circumstances, Brett is maintaining a positive attitude and is putting one foot in front of the other to rebuild.
I have been working with Brett Waller to launch the http://www.iamresidency.com/ and was scheduled to host workshops and coordinate events in the new year.
Friends have been asking how they can donate for the reBUILD, so here we are on gofundme.com. Your donations will be applied to repairing the artist residency house and replacing damaged goods such as exterior walls, insulation, paint, appliances, electronics, bed linens, pillows, mattresses, art supplies, and tools, etc. Your donation, big or small – IT ALL COUNTS – is much appreciated! All donations will go to directly to Brett Waller for sole purpose of repairing the damage to the house and property. We promise to share the results of the reBUILD with Brett Waller.

Brett Waller's creative work can be viewed here. Brett is a sculptor, painter, illustrator, designer, musican, and teacher, etc. He's been teaching drawing for the past few years which lead to the idea that it was time to give back even more to the community by not only teaching his craft, inviting other artists to do the same and providing a space for people to learn and share. If you're a Jacksonville, FL resident, you may have already seen his work and did not know it. Brett Waller made this full scale car sculpture, "Spirit of '76."
Many of Brett Waller's paintings and drawings have also been kissed by Hurricane Irma. As the artwork dries, a lovely stain of mother nature will be imprinted on most or maybe the paper will have an extra curl. Brett is offering the drawings for your donation (see reward level $100).
Brett Waller is also offering his oil painting series "HOME" for your donation (see reward level $1000 - limited to 9 original paintings, framed).
A note about the home:
Architect, Taylor Hardwick , of Jacksonville, FL, built this mid-century modern house. As you can see in the video, some of the mid-century modern furniture Brett put in the home has been destroyed or damaged.

The Waller's family dog, Zero, has that face! Zero will be much obliged to a photo op with you for your donation.
Brett and I talk on the phone call every Monday for over a year now. Yes, talk, not text. We share our research, business plans, and ideas on the artist-in-residency program. We also talk about how to stay in the game of life and keep working the creative muscle. I've watched Brett set his heart on creating a space for artists and people that want to learn a creative skill. Brett originally reburbished the house mostly with his own hands. He has a wife and two kids to support as well. In between teaching gigs and freelance projects, all his energy has been to get IAM Residency up and running before the end of the year. We are soooo close. Thank you! Thank you!
“Brett contacted me in early September, excited to announce that he was poised to launch programming in late fall of 2017. He invited me to see his labor of love in person and we scheduled a meeting for the week of September 11th. Then, Hurricane Irma hit. I knew Brett was positioned right along the shoreline so I sent him a text message the day after the storm passed checking to see how the house fared. Brett’s response was a series of photos that showed water, up to 2’ in certain areas, flooded throughout the house. We still had our meeting, but instead of discussing the residency program we got to work on the recovery process, removing waterlogged furniture and items from the house. The house, in order to be salvaged, will need to be gutted. Even in the face of devastating loss, Brett maintained a balanced composure. He didn’t underestimate the extent of the damage but he also didn’t question whether or not he would do the work necessary to rebuild and see his vision through.” - Patrick Fisher, Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville
