Hurricane Harvey Aftermath: Rockport, Texas 2017

My name is Robert Ochoa, son of Mary Martin Slack and brother of Joey and Max Ochoa. I feel shellfish putting this out there knowing there are thousands of other people that can use your help, but it starts with one and I have to do something to try and help my mom. It's always been a dream of mine to build my mom a big-o house with a white picket fence and get her out of living in a trailer. With the current situation, it's going to have to happen sooner than later and, honestly, I don't see myself making enough money to actually make it happen, but I never thought I would ask for help from strangers. Desperate times calls for desperate measures and I'm sorry if you've had losses too or know of anyone going through the same experience.

Those of you who know me and my brothers, know we didn't have much growing up, but my mom did the best she could to give us a happy life and I'm so very proud of her and the men she raised. She’s worked so hard throughout her life to build up what little we had in Rockport and it saddens my heart, and yours as well I’m sure, to see what Hurricane Harvey has done. Those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting my mom can speak to what an amazing, bright soul she has and her kindness that can put a smile in anyone’s heart. She was the head custodian at Live Oak Elementary for years and has now returned to work, but she truly deserves whatever support we can give. We need your help to rebuild.

Some of you may have been to our home in Rockport off Jackrabbit Rd. and shared some awesome memories with us, and maybe some not-so awesome memories, like that time I was running across the roof and Max shot me with a bb gun or that time I kicked a burning shoe on his foot or maybe a time when my dog bit someone. Either way, memories that will never be forgotten and will be charished forever.

Some of you may be family, friends, friends of friends and some of you reading this might just be complete strangers that understand or sympathize with our losses. Either way, THANK YOU for reading this, thinking about us, donating, sharing, doing anything you can to help us, Rockport or any other area devastated by Hurricane Harvey. With lack of insurance, just know that every dime of the money raised will go toward putting a roof over someone’s head! $50,000 might not be enought to rebuild everything we lost (home, truck, appliances, clothes, etc.), but it is a good start and will make a huge difference to our community. Anything will help. THANK YOU!! I will be posting pictures all along the way!
