My name is Michael, and I am raising money for a mother in need and an orphanage, relying on local communities only, for financial support.

The Harsh Reality in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, where over 38.3% of the population lives in poverty, families are caught in an endless battle for survival. The country has faced years of economic instability, high unemployment, and skyrocketing inflation, making it nearly impossible for ordinary citizens to get ahead. The cost of living continues to rise while wages remain painfully low, leaving many hardworking individuals struggling to afford even basic necessities.

Khulekani’s Story

Life can change in an instant. For Khulekani Tshuma, a devoted mother of two, that moment came when she lost her husband, Gilbert Tshuma—the pillar of her family. Gilbert had worked tirelessly to provide for his wife and their two children, Julia and Sandie, building himself up from humble beginnings to becoming a dedicated tennis trainer. But now, with him gone, Khulekani faces a daily struggle to keep her family afloat.

Despite her relentless efforts, working full weeks for often just $50 a week, the burden of raising two children alone is overwhelming.

Khulekani had dreams of creating a better future for her family. Pursuing a rural veterinary nursing course, hoping to gain the skills needed for a more stable and fulfilling career. However, due to lack of funds, she was forced to put her studies on hold. Without financial support, her dream of completing her education—and giving her children a more secure future—remains out of reach.

School fees, food, and medical care have become luxuries rather than essentials for many families. No mother should have to choose between putting food on the table and sending her children to school.

This fundraiser is to help lighten Khulekani’s burden, ensuring Julia and Sandie can continue their education and that she can have the opportunity to resume her vet nursing course and secure a brighter future for her family.

Supporting an Orphanage in Need

Beyond helping Khulekani, this fundraiser will also support an orphanage in Zimbabwe—one that receives little to no outside assistance. Many vulnerable children grow up without access to proper care, education, or opportunities for a brighter future.

I will be on the ground in Zimbabwe, engaging with the wider community to select an orphanage where the funds will have the most immediate and meaningful impact. Our goal is to avoid corruption and uncertainty, ensuring that every dollar raised truly benefits the children who need it most. By choosing wisely, we can make a real difference in the lives of orphaned children who would otherwise have no access to external support.

While we may not be able to change the entire world, we can change the world for these children and for Khulekani’s family.
