Mudita Joy Society has the opportunity to work alongside those living in the small village of Slab Ta Oun, Cambodia, to restore a safe and livable space for Tach, a grandmother who cares for her young grandchild.

The forty-year-old structure they call home has become dangerously unstable — the next strong wind could bring the clay roof down on top of them. For years, there has been no proper place to prepare food, with cooking done over an open wood fire. This project will allow Tach and her grandchild to live safely and with dignity once again.

This effort is deeply connected to the village itself.

Sovanney, a Cambodian-Canadian and co-creator of Mudita Joy Society, grew up in Slab Ta Oun Village. His lifelong ties to the community and their shared trust have made this rebuilding effort possible. The property grounds have long been a gathering space — a place where families and children come together to celebrate, to share food, and what little they have with one another. It’s a place that reflects the very spirit of Mudita: shared joy in the wellbeing of others.

Who benefits - Tach and her grandchild, and the wider village community who gather there - all gaining a safe, welcoming space to share daily life, warmth and connection.

Our Commitment

A few members of Mudita Joy Society are committed and preparing to travel to Kep, Cambodia to take part in this hands-on building effort.

Every team member is personally financing their own travel and stay in Cambodia. This means your donations are dedicated entirely to the project itself — building materials, local labour, and the tools needed to make this project a success.

This commitment allows 100% of the funds raised here to go directly toward bringing Tach’s home back to life — and to supporting the local community involved in the rebuild.

We warmly invite you to join the journey — by following our updates as the work begins in January, or simply by sharing in the intention that guides this effort: to give with simplicity, and to build with love.

Closing

Your support — in any amount — helps rebuild more than a home. It restores safety, dignity, and the spirit of community that has long gathered around Tach’s doorstep. Together, we can make this space whole again — a place where stories, meals, and kindness continue to be shared for years to come.

This project is a reminder that compassion grows stronger when we work together.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, and for your generosity and trust.
