Rebuilding Her Life After Domestic Violence

We are reaching out for help on behalf of a woman who has endured unimaginable trauma and loss in an extremely short period of time.
This domestic violence relationship lasted only five months. Within the first three months, the abuse escalated to life-threatening levels. Her boyfriend choked her until she passed out, put a gun in her mouth, threatened to burn her home down, and threatened to kill everyone she loves. These were not empty threats — they were acts of terror that left her fearing for her life every single day.
During this time, she was also in the middle of remodeling the home she has owned for over 20 years — the home where she raised her children and built a lifetime of memories.
When she finally found the courage to tell her family about the abuse and ask for help, they immediately flew her to Rhode Island, where her family is originally from, so she could have safety and peace of mind. However, the Bryan County Police informed her that unless she returned to Georgia, the case would be considered inactive. Despite the fear and danger, she flew back so she could pursue justice.
Sadly, nothing was done beyond taking a report.
She did not feel safe returning home, so an eviction was filed against the abuser. Due to the holidays, the eviction process was delayed, leaving her displaced with only the clothes on her back and two outfits she had purchased while in Rhode Island. She followed every single step law enforcement advised her to take. Since then, she has been staying between homes for safety reasons, which we will not disclose.
In the midst of all of this, she continued working at the company she had been with for 20 years — a company she helped build from the ground up, back when it didn’t even have a building. Due to the severity of the situation, she informed her employer about the domestic violence. One week later, she was fired.
Weeks after everything came to light, she was escorted by police back to her home to retrieve her work computer to return it. What she found was devastating.
The abuser had taken everything.
Her clothes, shoes, jewelry, furniture, TVs, and irreplaceable personal items were gone. Pictures of her children from when they were young were stolen. Her birth certificate and the deed to her home were taken. He even ripped up the floors and burned them in the fire pit outside. Once again, police were present — and once again, very little was done.
This woman now has to start completely over.
She is an amazing mother, an amazing daughter, and an amazing friend. She has opened her home to countless family members over the years. She has taken in children who did not have a mother of their own. She has been one of the most loving and selfless people to ever walk into my children’s lives — and mine.
She does not deserve this.
We are asking for help so she can rebuild her life, replace essential items, secure safe housing, and begin healing from the trauma she has endured. Any donation, any share, any support means more than words can express.
Anything helps. Thank you for standing with her.
