Rebuilding Grand Cay Abaco

My name is Cordell Rolle and I was born and raised on a small island in the Bahamas called Grand Cay Abaco.  Grand Cay Abaco is a tiny island – consisting of about 400 people.  It is barely visible on a map.

Over the weekend, Hurricane Dorian pummeled Grand Cay Abaco.  My past few days were spent calling home – frantically trying to locate my Grandfather (Lloyd Rolle), my Father (Sidney Rolle), my brother (Sidney Rolle, Jr.), my sister (La Shae Rolle) and my nephew (Tre’Von Rolle).  Thankfully, I’ve located my family and they are safe.  However, their homes, boats, and all of their possessions were destroyed by Dorian.

This is one of the hardest things that I have ever gone through. So much of my life (and memories) were blown away over the weekend.  As I write this, tears roll down my face.  I felt helpless during Dorian – not knowing if my loved ones were safe.  I am so thankful that everyone in my family has survived but now my focus is on clean-up and restoring normalcy in the lives of my family and the wonderful people of Grand Cay Abaco.

Resources are limited in Grand Cay Abaco.  Property insurance is non-existent for homeowners.  There are no airports and limited vehicles on the island to help with logistics.  The only way into and off of the island is by boat.  Unlike the larger tourist islands (like Grand Bahama), help to the people of Grand Cay Abaco will be slow (if it ever comes at all).

I have started this GoFundMe with the express purpose of raising money and collecting supplies for the people of Grand Cay Abaco.  I am asking my social media friends and family to support my hometown in whatever way possible.  Please share this campaign – even if you are unable to donate.

Additionally, I am collecting supplies that I plan to personally deliver on my boat.  Specifically, the people need the following: water, Gatorade, Pedialyte, baby formula, non-perishable canned foods, first aid kits, bandaids, bug spray, sunscreen, towels, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, flashlights, batteries, paper towels, sanitary wipes, garbage bags, toilet paper, diapers, feminine hygiene products, paper plates, plastic silverware, generators, clean fuel containers.

Supplies can be sent or dropped-off at the following locations:

1.      Cocoa Beach Regional – Chamber of Commerce
400 Fortenberry Rd, Merritt Island, FL 32952

2.      Johnson and Montas
1290 Federal Hwy, Rockledge, FL 32955

3.      Antoinette Unique Interior
73    North Orlando Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931

4.        Alluvionic
3530 N Harbor City Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32935

My family needs you.  Grand Cay Abaco needs you.  I need you.  Please help the wonderful people of Grand Cay Abaco rebuild their wonderful home.  Thanks in advance for any support you are able to provide.

****This campaign was co-authored by Cordell Rolle and Paul T. Zeniewicz, Esq.  Mr. Zeniewicz is a friend of Cordell Rolle and an attorney based out of Orlando, Florida that handles insurance claims on behalf of homeowners in Florida.  100% of all money collected (minus any GoFundMe fees) will be given directly to Cordell Rolle to deliver to his family and the people of Grand Cay Abaco.  The funds will be spent on emergency needs of people that are presently homeless, without running water, electricity, basic services, etc.

****Cordell Rolle plans to physically deliver the the goods collected (at the designated places above) personally via his boat, along with various others who have volunteered their boat(s) to help GCA victims.  Presently, it is our intent to run this campaign for approximately two weeks.
