Rebuilding Puerto Rico - One family at a time

Tax deductible

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico with deadly force. Today, even a year and a half later, some homes are still uninhabitable. Want to make a difference and help us fix them to allow the families to move back in?

When the Hurricane struck the Island of Puerto Rico in September 2017 with sustained winds of 155mph and wind gusts of 175mph, the village of Dorado took a direct hit. So too did the families who live there. Only 19 miles west of San Juan, most families were without any power for over 8 months. Windows and doors were blown out, roofs were torn off, homes were uninhabitable and families were displaced.

Last year 14 of us traveled to the island and fixed 7 homes in a week, returning 7 families to their homes.  One of them was the home of an 81 year old blind man who had been living in a tent in the back yard of his property with his wife and a Coleman stove to cook food. Most of these folks were not able to receive funds from FEMA.

This year, 35 of us are heading back to finish the job from June 16 - 24, 2019.

Our top priority will be to fix the home of Mayra  Salgado. Here is her compelling video:

Mayra and her family have been living with relatives since the hurricane, but we're going to help rebuild, reinforce and get them back into their home...for good.

100% of the funds for this budgeted effort will be used in Dorado for the benefit of the residents there.  Drywall, tape, paint, roofing materials, doors, windows, plywood and lumber, nails, plumbing materials, and landscaping are all on the list to be acquired once we get to Puerto Rico. The team is paying all of its own expenses.

If any funds are left over, we may even try to build a playground for the children in the village of Dorado.

Can you please join us in making an impact in returning these good people to their homes? Please also feel free to share this campaign with your family, friends, and colleagues. Any donation to the cause will be greatly appreciated and will produce immediate benefits many times over for the entire community.

Here's what your donation will help us achieve:

$25 will allow us to buy enough drywall to enclose a 10 x 10-foot room
$50 will pay for a 5 gallon can of paint and primer
$75 will buy the paint and the brushes and pans to make a damaged room new again
$100 will paint the interior of a house that a family can move back in to
$250 will reseal the roof of a home to prevent further leaking
$500 will buy new doors and windows for a home
$1,000 will help seal, coat, and paint an entire home and allow a family to move back in
$2,000 will help to reconstruct one of several still damaged homes we are hoping to fix

Thank you very, very much!
