Rebuilding Connie's Life and Home

Donation protected
In April of 2017, Connie's house in the foothills above Denver burned to the ground.  It was a wood frame structure and it was completely destroyed before the fire trucks ever arrived at the scene.  When she sifted through the ashes, the only things she was able to recover were the American flag that was presented to her at her son Bruce's funeral, a portion of his discharge papers from the Navy, and a large wrench that had belonged to her father.

Everything else was destroyed.   She had a room setup as a memorial to her son Bruce Bennett's family who had been attacked in 1984 by the so called "Hammer Murderer".  Pictures of Bruce, Debby, Melissa, and Vanessa gone forever.   Scrapbooks full of newspaper clippings of the aftermath of the tragic event - gone.  The spider plant that had belonged to Bruce that Connie kept alive for decades - gone.

This home was Connie's refuge from the world.  It was the one place she could go and find a little peace and feel safe.  Although Connie had insurance, the county is requiring many upgrades to the  property that the insurance company isn't willing to cover.  They required her to create a turnaround for a firetruck and ambulances by digging back into the hill, remove all the debris from the burned down house ($56,000), she couldn't prove that the water pump to the house wasn't damaged by the fire ($2,700) so the insurance refused to pay it.   Furniture costs ($5,000) in excess of what the insurance is going to cover.  She had two storage sheds out back full of items from Vanessa's childhood.  Insurance wouldn't cover the cost of the sheds ($6,000).   The county is also requiring her to install a sprinkler system in the house which is also not covered by the insurance.

Connie will be 84 years old in October.  She would rather spend her remaining time in her re-built home rather than fighting with the County and the Insurance company and trying to figure out how to pay for it all.  Please help us cover the costs in excess of the insurance payments so Connie can finally move on with her life.  She has always said she wanted to know who had taken Bruce and Debbie and Melissa from her and left Vanessa a physical mess.  Now that is seems the murderer has been identified we hope Connie can live out the remainder of her life in peace.  Please help us make that happen for her.
