Rebuilding beach palapas in VI

Donation protected
Please Help Water Island in the Virgin Islands offer shade and shelter to residents and visiters again.  Help us rebuild the palapas!

You can zero zero out the “tip”.  Don’t let let that discourage your contribution.

Water Island is the smallest of the US Virgin Island. It had only one sandy public beach. Honeymoon Beach is a meeting place for residents and  a place for visitors to enjoy.

After the 2 category 5 hurricanes Honeymoon Beach was devastated. Volunteers and others worked hard removing debris from the beach. The palapas were destroyed by the storms. The palapas were an important element of Honeymoon Beach on Water Island.  The palapas offered shade to visitors and residents visiting the beach.  They were pretty as they were made from palm fronds for a natural look.  Because the palapas and other  structures on Honeymoon were destroyed there is no shade or shelter on the main beach.

We can repair  the 5 palapas but need funds. Building materials in the Virgin Islands are very expensive.  Palm fronds fortunately  are FREE in the Virgin Islands.

If you have visited Water Island and remember the lovely palapas please give to this cause.  If you plan on visiting the Virgin Islands, please give to this cause. If you want to help our small island please give.

All this this money will be placed in the good hands of a community volunteer group on Water Island.  This is what the palapas used to look like.  Sadly, the benches were ruined too.
