<div>There are many stories of Palestinian strength and struggle to live in our homeland freely. For the people of Gaza, the struggle has been especially difficult over the past few months. <strong>The Israeli aggression on Gaza since October has forced us to leave our homes, destroyed our dreams and livelihoods and left thousands of our people dead or injured. </strong>Each of our stories is filled with hardship and pain that are personal. We felt it. We lived through it, and we are still living through it, day by day and hour by hour. More than 120 days of war against us have taken a toll. We are strained financially and we need help to survive the harsh conditions now and work towards self-sufficiency when the war hopefully ends.

<div><strong>I invite you to read my story below and support me. </strong>My story and my struggle are not just about me as an individual. They are woven into the fabric of the Palestinian struggle for freedom from a 75-year old occupation. Despite the unimaginable suffering we are experiencing right now, we still strive to live and we hope for a better future ahead. <strong>I invite you to be a part of rebuilding our lives and keeping the hope alive for an end to the injustice against the Palestinian people.</strong>

<div><strong>Hi, my name is Eman from Gaza, an engineer and teacher.</strong> In 2012, after I graduated from the College of Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering, I began working in a number of companies in Gaza under temporary contracts funded by grantmaking foundations. I worked as a designer then a website programmer then an iOS developer. My salary was very low, so I decided to look for additional work in Gaza. I found opportunity through the internet and worked in a variety of fields, taking advantage of any skill I possessed, to work via the internet. I worked in programming, design, translation, teaching, and audio recording through freelance platforms, and indeed, my salary improved and I began to feel a sense of stability.

<div>Then, the war in 2014 began and my worked stopped completely because of our displacement to another home and the electricity and internet outages. The war ended and I began working again and with greater determination than before. I even decided to stop working for companies inside Gaza due to the poor economic conditions, and I also decided to work only remotely from my home. I worked day and night and my profile began to gain recognition on freelance platforms and the reviews from my clients were consistently high, which gave me strong incentive to continue in my work.

<div>In addition to the skills I learned from engineering in college, however, I (decided) to add on the skill of teaching Arabic to foreigners since I excelled in the Arabic language throughout my school years. Because I loved the profession, I would work throughout the night given the difference in time zones between Palestine and the U.S. and I would sleep after dawn. I would then wake up (later) in the morning and I would have free time since the majority of my work teaching classes would begin in the evening by Palestine's time. I then decided to go back to college to study the Arabic language further. During this time (when I began studying), I would go to university in the morning and I would return home quickly to teach my students Arabic for 4 to 5 hours. Then I would prepare my students' (upcoming) classes and study for my university courses. You cannot imagine the happiness I felt as I worked and studied at the same time despite the difficulty. When I would see the excellent outcomes of studying and working, I would no longer feel fatigue.

<div>Three years passed with the same routine until I graduated from university with high honors in the beginning of 2020. I then decided to complete my Master's degree but in a narrow specialization, Teaching Arabic as a Second Language, and since this specialization was not available in Palestine, I traveled to Turkey where there is great interest in the field. I began to study, self-funded. I would work long hours in addition to the long hours that I spent studying. Since 2020 was the year Corona (began) and, as you know, there was huge shift to online learning, my schedule filled up completely and I could not take any more students, to the extent that I began to train a number of my relatives and friends to work with me and we established a small initiative called "Karawan Online for Teaching Arabic as a Second Language."

<div>The work was smoother and easier than it ever was before. My income multiplied manyfold to the extent that I was able to, praise God, support myself and my family and cover the costs of my Master's. Then suddenly in 2022, a financial company seized my account because I am Palestinian. I tried to communicate with them to understand the reason but they did not express any, and I was not the only one, rather many accounts were closed and the funds in them were stolen because they know that we cannot file claims against them. I was extremely sad at the time because I desperately needed the money being a student abroad who was supporting herself and her family, and (especially since) my family in Gaza had begun building a home for us there. I was working along with all the members of my family, each one according to his or her ability, to prepare the house and this consumed hundreds of hours of continuous work from us. My students knew that I worked in all hours of the day and that I did not turn away any student even if I did not sleep (in order to accommodate them).

<div><strong>I completed my Master's with excellence in the beginning of 2023, and then I decided to return to Gaza. </strong>My father used to always ask me: "When will you come back?" I would tell him: "I will not return to Gaza unless I return to our new house." With the grace of God we finished preparing the house, which took two and a half years to build, and I returned to my homeland at the beginning of the year... but to what end?!!

<div><strong>Just as I was getting used to the new house and my work was beginning to settle, the Israeli aggression against Gaza began.</strong> We were <strong>forcibly displaced from our home </strong>under the intense bombings, and days after we came to know that the <strong>house was completely destroyed</strong> and had become what we call in the Palestinian dialect, "cookie crumbs." You cannot imagine how much time I spent trying to transport my books and clothes from my country to study to my home country. Those who know how the people of Gaza must travel are the ones who know this struggle. (As for) our house, we have yet to pay off the loans we took on it. We were still furnishing the house up until the last month (before being displaced). We built the house and lived in it for only six months, and we were collecting money bit by bit to finish furnishing it. This house was wholly destroyed and we said, "All praise is due to God" (we accepted this fate), no problem.

<div><strong>My work, since the first day of the aggression I have not been able to work.</strong> My work requires the internet, electricity and a quiet place. I ranked as the top instructor across Palestine and the Arab countries on one teaching platform, but now I have not been able to work for nearly four months because of the war and all my students have cancelled their subscriptions on the platform because I am unable to teach them. Even if the war ended, I cannot work from a tent.

<div>In the beginning, I said, "No problem, thank God we have our old house and I can work from there. The most important thing is for the war to end," but the old house was also destroyed and is no longer suitable for me to use to work.

<div>I am extremely sad that I am asking you for financial support. I am used to depending on myself and working hard, but this time the loss is great, and even if the war ends, from where would I work? And how would I work? I will need a period of time to build a new place suitable for work and to begin again.

<div>اسمي إيمان من قطاع غزة، مهندسة ومدرسة، في عام ٢٠١٢ بعد تخرجي من كلية الهندسة قسم هندسة الحاسوب، بدأت العمل في شركات داخل القطاع بعقود مؤقتة مدعومة ماليا من مؤسسات مانحة، عملت مصصمة ثم مبرمجة مواقع إنترنت ثم iOS developer، وقد كان الراتب قليل جدا، فققرت البحث عن عمل بجانب عملي داخل القطاع، ووجدت السبيل من خلال الإنترنت وعملت في أكثر من مهنة حيث كنت أستغل أي مهارة أمتلكها للعمل من خلال الأنترنت، عملت في البرمجة والتصميم والترجمة والتدريس والتسجيل الصوتي عبر منصات العمل الحر، وفعلا تحسن راتبي وبدأت أشعر بالاستقرار، ثم بدأت حرب في العام ٢٠١٤ وبذلك توقف عملي تماما بسبب انتقالنا إلى منزل آخر وانقطاع الانترنت والكهرباء، انتهت الحرب وبدأت العمل مرة أخرى وبجهد أكبر من السابق حتى قررت التوقف عن العمل داخل الشركات في القطاع بسبب سوء الوضع الاقتصادي، وقررت ألا أخرج من البيت وأن يكون عملي من البيت فقط، واصلت الليل بالنهار، وبدأ ملفي عبر منصات العمل الحر يعلو، وتقييمات العملاء كانت جيدة باستمرار مما أعطاني حافزا قويا للاستمرار الجاد في العمل، ولكني بالإضافة إلى المهارات التي تعلمتها من خلال كلية الهندسة، أضفت مهارة تعليم العربية للأجانب، فقد كنت متميزة باللغة العربية طوال فترة المدرسة، ولأني أحببت المجال كنت أعمل طوال الليل بسبب فرق التوقيت بين فلسطين وأمريكا وأنام بعد الفجر، ثم أستيقظ صباحا ويكون عندي وقت فراغ، فمعظم عملي في الدروس يبدأ مساء بتوقيت فلسطين، وحينها قررت الذهاب إلى الجامعة لدراسة اللغة العربية، وخلال تلك الفترة كنت اذهب إلى الجامعة في الصباح، وأعود إلى البيت مسرعة لأدرس طلابي العربية من ٤ إلى خمس ساعات يوميا ثم بعدها أحضر دروس طلابي وأدرس للجامعة، ولا يمكنكم تخيل السعادة التي كنت أشعر بها وانا أقوم بالعمل والدراسة معا وإن كان الأمر صعبا، إلا أنني حينما أجد النتائج الممتازة في الدراسة والعمل لا أشعر بالتعب.

<div>مرت ثلاث سنوات على هذا الوضع إلى أن تخرجت في الجامعة بتقدير امتياز في مطلع العام ٢٠٢٠، وعزمت بعدما في أكمال درجة الماجستير ولكن في تخصص دقيق وهو تعليم اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها ولان التخصص غير موجود في فلسطين، سافرت إلى تركيا، وهناك اهتمام كبير في هذا المجال، وبدأت الدراسة على نفقتي الخاصة، كنت أعمل طويلا بالإضافة إلى الساعات الطويلة التي أقضيها في الدراسة، ولأن عام 2020 كان هو عام كورونا وتعرفون كم التوجه نحو التعليم عبر الإنترنت، حتى امتلأ جدولي تماما ولم أستطع تدريس المزيد من الطلاب، حتى بدأت بتدريب مجموعة من أقاربي وأصدقائي للعمل معي وأسسنا لمشروع صغير بعنوان كروان أونلاين لتعليم العربية لغير النا

<div>وأسسنا لمشروع صغير بعنوان كروان أونلاين لتعليم العربية لغير الناطقين بها، وكانت العمل يسير بشكل لا مثيل له من قبل، فقد ازداد دخلي أضعافا حيث بحمد الله كنت قادرة على إعالة نفسي وعائلتي والنفقة على دراسة الماجستير، وفجأة في العام ٢٠٢٢ قامت شركة مالية بالحجز على حسابي لأني فلسطينية وحاولت التواصل معهم لفهم السبب ولكن دون إبداء أي أسباب، ولم أكن أنا الوحيدة بل كان الكثير من الحسابات تم إغلاقها وسرقة الأموال التي فيها، لأنهم يعملون أننا لا نستطيع أن نقاضيهم.
</div>
<div>حزنت كثيرا في ذلك الوقت لأني كنت أحتاج هذا المال كثيرا، فأنا طالبة مغتربة وأعيل نفسي وعائلتي، وكانت العائلة في غزة قد بدأت ببناء بيت لنا في غزة
</div>
<div>كنت أعمل أنا وجميع أفراد أسرتي كل حسب استطاعته لتجهيز البيت، واستغرق ذلك منا مئات من ساعات العمل المتواصل، وطلابي يعرفونخ أني كنت أعمل في جميع الأوقات ولا ارد طالبا حتى ولو لم أنم
</div>
<div>انتهيت من دراسة الماجستير بتقدير امتياز، في بداية عام ٢٠٢٣ ثم قررت العودة إلى غزة، وكان والدي يسألني دوما متى ستعودين؟ فأقول له: لن أعود إلا إلى بيتنا الجديد، وبحمد الله انتهينا من تجهيز البيت الذي استغرق منا بناؤه سنتين ونصف، وعدت إلى وطني في بداية العام ولكن ماذا!!
</div>
<div>ما إن بدأت التعود على البيت الجديد وبدأ عملي يستقر حتى بدأ العدوان على غزة، اضطررنا في البداية للنزوح من البيت قسرا تحت القصف الشديد، ثم بعدها بأيام علمنا أن البيت دمر تدميرا كليا وأصبح باللهجة الفلسطينية بسكوتة، لا تعلمون كم من الوقت أمضيت وأنا أحاول أن أنقل كتبي وملابسي من بلد الدراسة إلى بلدي، الذي يعرف كيف يسافر أهل غزة هو الذي يعرف هذه المعاناة، بيتنا مازلنا لم نسدد الأقساط المالية التي أخذناها.
</div>
<div>ما زلنا نؤثث البيت حتى اخر شهر، بنينا البيت وسكنا به فقط ستة شهور، وصرنا نجمع المال شيئا فشيئا حتى نكمل تأثيث البيت.
</div>
<div>هذا البيت دمر كليا قلنا الحمد لله لا مشكلة.
</div>
<div>عملي منذ أول يوم في العدوان لم أعمل، عملي يحتاج ألى انترنت وكهرباء ومكان هادئ، كنت المدرسة الأولى على إحدى منصات التعليم عربيا وفلسطينيا، ولكني الان منذ أربع شهور تقريبا لم أعمل بسبب الحرب، وطلابي جميعهم ألغى الاشتراك في المنصة لأني لم أستطع تدريسهم، وحتى إن انتهت الحرب فلا أستطيع أن أعمل من خيمة

<div>ولا أخفيكم أني قلت في البداية"لا مشكلة، الحمدلله عندنا البيت القديم أعمل منه، المهم أن تنتهي الحرب" ولكن البيت القديم أيضا دمر ولم يعد صالحا للعمل.
