<div>The South Toe and Celo communities in Western North Carolina have been devastated by Hurricane Helene. Rivers surged 30 feet above their banks, sweeping away people’s homes and farms, and destroying roads and bridges in this very special valley at the base of Mt. Mitchell. The full extent of the flood and wind damage is yet to be determined, but it is clear that many millions of dollars of damage have occurred in the form of lost homes, businesses, and livelihoods.

<div>While many funds and efforts are trying to address immediate needs, we recognize that recovery and rebuilding will take significant time and resources. This fund is designed to support medium-term recovery for families and community institutions most impacted by the floods, filling in the gaps from State, Federal and other recovery efforts. Funds will be used to provide financial, in-kind, or business aid to vulnerable residents, and will also be used to help rebuild community institutions that were damaged or destroyed, helping to build resilience, restore spirit and bring resources to these communities.

<div>We, the undersigned, grew up in this valley and have already either been personally on the ground and/or deeply involved in the immediate response to this tragic event. What is unique about this fund is that it is created and will be stewarded by family and friends of those in the area, and will be distributed by community members from Celo and South Toe river valley, from Micaville to Busick, to the projects they believe will be of most of benefit.

<div>This list will grow and evolve as the community identifies the exact projects it plans to support - please join us! The fund will be co-managed by residents of the South Toe valley so they can distribute the funds to projects that help the valley recover. 
</div>
