Rebuild the Dream - Studio Fire

I have been watching the excitement grow as Charis and Jordan have been working on their workshop/studio over the past year. The last time I saw her, I thought she just may burst with all the joy filling her up, as she talked about her plans and the new techniques she has been studying and intending to try on her pottery. They just got a kiln and pottery wheel, both of which they poured hard work into to fix up, as neither were working properly. This past week, all the parts were in and everything was finally functioning, the fun was about to begin!

I woke up this morning to a message and photos reporting that the studio had caught fire and everything was gone. Not only was all the pottery equipment lost, but their bikes and kayak, amongst other things being stored, like things of their daughter, Rivers, that she had outgrown and were awaiting their next owner. My heart immediately broke for them, as it also cried out in relief that the damage was only to the studio and Charis, Jordan and Rivers were not harmed. It could have easily spread to their newly finished deck and on to the house if the fire department had not responded as quickly as they did.

Insurance will likely not cover all, if any of the damages. Their particular insurance does not have a good reputation for covering home damages. Regardless, it will be extremely timely and there will likely be a huge deductible, even if it happens to get covered. My heart aches for the loss of her equipment and the space, so I would really love for us to work together to replace these things, but more than anything, I don't want to see her excitement of her dream of the studio being destroyed as well. She is an incredible artist and I have been so excited that her passion for pottery and painting has been blooming again. Tragedies like this are quick to put out our fire (no pun intended). They are so discouraging and they just sweep over us and blow all the joy out, but I hope we can restore that for her. Jordan has put so much time and effort into helping Charis build this dream, too. It has been so fun to watch him love her so well and use his engineering brain troubleshoot all the issues her equipment was having.

If you know this family, you know they pour themelselves out to others. They are quick to help and to host. You also will know that Charis is going to make some bad ass symbolism out of how this fire refined them, or some beautiful analogy . That is why she is so great.. If you don't know them, trust me. You'll want to meet them. Help us rebuild their studio and rebuild their dream! I am sure it will take way more than this to rebuild the space and replace all that was lost, but this would certainly get things started and we can always exceed the goal!!
