Rebuild Richardstown Cottage

Next to my home in North county Dublin, there’s a little cottage that is hundreds of years old. The woman who calls this place home has grown up and lived there her entire life. She has a young daughter. She has always lived a traditional and rural lifestyle, keeping small farm animals. Her house was always open to anyone and she frequently offered up her couch for the night to people as they passed through the local area.


This woman is a local historian and has spent her life working tirelessly for the local community, playing a key part in various conservation and community programs, including the hedgerow society. She also visits schools as a heritage expert, nursing homes and organises day trips for senior citizens.


On the night of the 18th of February her little cottage burned down.


This was a terrible accident which has left her with nothing, no possessions, no books, no home.


Unfortunately the insurance had lapsed.


While so far, the response from the local community has been fantastic, we need more support than they can provide.


A few of us have set up a fundraising page and Facebook group to try to help rebuild her home.


This woman is in this situation through no fault of her own, simply she cared for and spent so much time and effort for the local community that she didn’t have time to think about herself.
