Rebuild Maitland Gardens Baseball Field

 

 

The month of September has brought a series of highs and lows for Mifflin County Youth Baseball. Heavy, flooding rains wreaked havoc on our fields and facilities. The worst damage has been to our minors and majors baseball field in Maitland. The flood on Thursday, September 23rd resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in direct damage and the need for hundreds of hours of volunteer labor to clean up and repair.

 

 

Maitland Field is used for minor and major teams, usually 1-2 teams at each level. Flood damage completely uprooted the fencing around the entire field, swept away two sets of spectator benches, carried and flipped a storage shed that housed field supplies, broke several of the wooden beams that held the batting cage, and damaged the concession stand and its contents.

 

 

At the request of several individuals and businesses in our community we established this Go Fund Me page with the initial hope that we could raise enough to cover the direct costs of the damage and get us back to even, without having to raise our registration fees in the spring. We boast the 2016 Jr. Babe Ruth World Series Champions, the 2018 Babe Ruth World Series Runner-Up team, most recently the 2021 13-Year Old Babe Ruth Regional Runner-ups, and 2021 15-Year Old Babe Ruth World Series Runner-Ups. We know the county’s love for baseball, and know with help from the community and businesses, we can get our fields back for the spring season.

 

 

As the fall season winds down and winter will soon be upon us, the MCYB leadership team will be engaging with community leaders and engineers to discuss options for how to invest in meaningful improvements to our fields. We plan on using the money to replace the fencing around the field, fix the dugouts, replace the beams used for the batting cage, replace ruined items in the shed and concession area, restore bleachers that were swept downstream and lost, cut down and cleanup the trees in the parking area, and fill in the infield. We will keep you all posted as we progress.

 

 

In the meantime, please continue to share our story and the Go Fund Me information. Mifflin County Youth Baseball League is entirely run through volunteer efforts and community support. Every dollar raised through this effort will be reinvested to improve the opportunity and experience we offer to the girls and boys of the Mifflin County community.
