The YOGI TIMES team has befriended an orphanage and are fundraising to build a new home for the 50 orphaned children in Canggu, Bali, Indonesia.
Hope Children's Home provides love, education and care for abandoned children. Many have been left unwanted by parents, or by families who cannot afford to take care of them. Sadly, foreign land owners are taking back their property, and the orphanage has been asked to relocate by December 2018.
Tris, the 67 year old Balinese daughter of the original founder, is rallying the community together to build a new home for the children, just across from their school.
As she warmly embraces us in her big grandmother arms, we are reminded that she has single-handedly taken care of these children for all these years, with no government support. She relies on the goodwill of the community and tourists to donate what they can to keep the orphanage going. To the kids, she is also known as 'mom'.
Your donations - even just $1 - will go a long way in Bali. We can buy enough bricks and cement for one small room with just $60. The community is helping us build it...we are all pulling together to give these children a roof over their head in time for Christmas. People are donating food, labor and time. Now, we need some help getting the supplies and materials to build a solid home.
We have already raised around 650 USD for the construction and 100% of those profits have been given to the home already. Since their focus has been getting the new building ready and therefore putting most of donations towards that, the children are still in need of money for their school tuition.
I have been able to visit twice and the construction is coming a long way. The girls' rooms are nearly ready but unfortunately, the boys' rooms have a long way to go. They need about 10,000,000 rupiyah (around 675 USD) just to build the roof. The boys will likely have to sleep on the floor of the kitchen come December.
My goal is to raise enough money to finish the roof for the boys AND contribute to school fees, to burden the stress of the people who run the home and the children as well.
