Hurricane Relief for the Ochoa’s

Donation protected
Hi everyone and thank you for taking the time to visit my GoFundMe page.

After 34 years of building our life together with our 5 children, Dawn & I lost everything we’ve collected along the way except for our memories. Hurricane Florence did not discriminate in her destruction which included our family heirlooms that were passed down from generation to generation, our keepsakes from our children, our collections from our travels around the world during the 24 years in the Marine Corps, and all my Marine Corp memorabilia are completely gone. Those are the items that can never be replaced and are now lost to us forever. However, we also lost all our furniture, clothes, dishes, appliances, and everything that is needed to make a home.

The flood waters rose over 5ft and the damage was so severe that all the flooring, every single wall, and all electrical must be replaced. My home had to be stripped down to the studs and all the counters and cabinets had to be ripped out. What once was a full-bodied home filled with love, warmth, and our most prized possessions was left as an empty shell, a skeleton of what used to exist.

We have received some financial help from FEMA which provided $31,000.00 for the repairs to our home. This amount does not even come close to the actual cost of repairs and we are left dramatically short of the amount needed to just return our home to a “live-able” status. My family has always been the ones offering our help to our friends, family, and neighbors our entire life. We were very fortunate and blessed to not have experienced this type of loss until Hurricane Florence. Now, we are at the whim of our family, friends, and neighbors for help that we so desperately need. I am thankful to the volunteers who have helped so far from removing debris from my home, to helping with the repairs that we could afford to purchase the materials for though FEMA’s financial contribution.

Currently, we are short of the funds to continue making the repairs to the home which include putting walls up, floors, doors, cabinets, bathrooms, and much more. We haven’t even begun to think about the other things like furniture and personal items. My family needs all the help that you can give so we can rebuild our home and then began to rebuild our lives. Thank you very much for taking the time to read our page and for all contributions made. My family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers as well and God bless everyone!

Always Yours Truly,
